20Everythings

It's Not About the Somethings Anymore in a World Thats All About the Everything

A starting point.

If I were to write a personal ad it would probably look something like this:

25 year old woman with a love of good beer, conversational sarcasm and NPR in search of someone who will listen to the rantings of her increasingly crazy ideas while she tries to navigate her way through the treacherous terrain of her 20s…or maybe just her life.

That pretty well sums it up, actually.

After paving a remarkably bumpy professional road for myself by earning a bachelors degree in psychology in 2008, I entered what they call the “real world.” Since, I’ve made an attempt at making my way with a bottle of microbrew in my left hand and a sense of responsibility in my right. From my home in Colorado to New York City to Central America, I have traveled with eyes open, hoping for a sense of understanding in my unsettled 20-something world. I have learned a few things here and there, and seen many more.

I’ll admit, I hang with an exceptionally idealistic bunch who are currently located at various points all around the globe. In general, they are well-educated, well-traveled and come from privilege. Many of them are what you might call “do-gooders,” but that I call socially responsible, choosing careers in education, social services, public policy and so on.

No doubt that each of these things give me a skewed perception of what it is like to be a 20-something in this new millennium. That is why I’m opening up the conversation to all of you. I will sure as hell tell you what I think, but I’d love to hear what you think, especially when you think I am full of shit. I’m sensitive, so it will probably hurt my feelings but I promise to not cry in public, so you’ve got that going for you.

So here we go.

Hello world. I’m a 20-something. Nice to meet you.
